Water Intrusion and When to call SERVPRO

5/11/2022 (Permalink)

As a leader in the cleaning and restoration industry, we strive to meet or exceed the expectations of every customer, client, and business that is involved with water damaged property. Every property, every project, every customer deserves excellence.

Water intrusion in a home or business is always a traumatic event. Effectively restoring a water-damaged property is such a valuable service to any homeowner or business owner. This type of disruption creates stress and uncertainty for many individuals and can be very costly.

This is when you call us at SERVPRO of Visalia to provide guidance and assistance to ensure the best decisions are made through these difficult times.

Water intrusion can cause severe damages to both your structure and contents.

Properly mitigating, drying, and restoring a water-damaged structure requires training, expertise, and specialized equipment. With hands-on experience and coaching in the field, we are the best in the industry.

The goal of emergency actions is to protect your structure and contents from further damage, establish a safe environment, extract water, demo unrestorable materials, and create the conditions for drying the structure and contents effectively. This typically involves calculating and positioning air movers and dehumidifiers within the affected area.

Once the equipment is placed, we monitor the drying process and make sure it is working properly. Monitoring services continue until the structure and contents are dry as we evaluate, update monitoring logs, and make adjustments as needed.

Sometimes, a Visalia water damage case may prove so severe as to warrant a quarantine or exclusion zone within your home. While we do not make these calls lightly, SERVPRO has to institute such safety precautions for some situations to protect both you and your home while we conduct restorations. While our technicians are typically more than able to explain the full reasoning behind such precautions, it might pay off to know what situations can commonly lead to this decision.

Electrical Hazards

If your home has water damage in a broad area or standing water in a room, this area typically must be cordoned off due to the potential presence of electrical hazards. When outlets and large electronic appliances come into contact with volumes of water, they create a major hazard to anyone not protected by specialized clothing like that worn by SERVPRO technicians.

Mold

If our inspectors find a mold of a dangerous species or spread, they may create a quarantine area to stop its spread and shield residents from potential health effects the mold can cause. We are well-qualified to handle mold situations, so worry not if we do find a problem. We simply incorporate mold remediation into the present cleanup job and keep moving.

Septic Tank Spillage or Other Waste Hazards

When a septic tank has spilled, or some other disaster involving biological waste has occurred, we typically bar access to this area to prevent contamination from occurring. Tainted water sources carry large quantities of bacteria, viruses, and fungi that can create serious health effects even through simple proximity. If you know that your septic tank has ruptured or spilled, be sure to inform our personnel before they arrive so adequate preparations can be made.

Structural Damage

More severe water damage has the potential to cause structural damage to the home. If our trained inspectors find signs of this, they may ask you and your family to vacate the area immediately. Structural collapse can happen suddenly, and without prompting, so it is best to stay away from the at-risk area until we have had enough time to ensure its safety.

Need Mold Remediation? Here’s What to Expect

3/10/2022 (Permalink)

If you think you may have black mold in your Clovis CA, home it's highly recommended that you contact a local mold remediation service. Our professionals have the ability to thoroughly remove the mold and then sanitize afterwards. Here are a few steps you may see them perform during a remediation.

1. Damage Assessment

One of the first things you may see during a mold cleanup, is the damage assessments. The remediation professional working on your home will take a look at where the possible mold is, be able to test for the mold type, and determine if there are any secondary damages that need to be repaired as well. Once this is done they can begin containing the area so that cleanup can occur.

2. Containing the Affected Area

The next step, especially if black mold is present, is to contain the affected area. This usually involves using plastic sheeting to separate the space from the rest of the home, and setting up ventilation in order to regulate air flow. This will help prevent spore particles from becoming airborne during the cleaning process. Once this step is complete remediation can begin.

3. Safety Precautions

You will also see the mold remediation professionals working on your home take very specific safety precautions. The only does this include containing the area, but wearing safety gear as well. This may include masks, coveralls, gloves, shoe covers, and other personal protective equipment. These items can be removed immediately after leaving the contained area so that they can be washed. This also will help prevent the spread of mold by preventing spores from being carried through the space on clothing.

If you think you may have black mold And your home it's time to contact your local remediation service. These professionals can perform a damage assessment to determine where and how bad the mold problem is, contain the affected area to prevent spore spreading, and remove mold while following proper safety procedures. If you have any questions these professionals can help.

Staying safe during the pandemic

It is important that we all do our best to protect ourselves and others with the widespread reach of COVID19.

Keeping the germs at bay.

Remembering your mask, gloves and sanitizer.

The basics still work with this virus.

Cleanliness is the first line of defense with any illness or potential contaminate.  Regular cleaning of our hands and frequently touched surfaces can and will do more to slow the spread of viruses than anything else.

Hand and face coverings help when used correctly, keep your masks clean or use disposable face coverings. Gloves will also help when out and about. Take them off when returning to your vehicle making sure to turn them inside out without touching the outside of the gloves and properly dispose.

Keep yourself in good physical condition! Drink plenty of water and get your rest, you are at your best and the most resistant to infection or illness when you are healthy. The added bonus is a boost to your mental wellbeing when you are rested especially if you add physical exercise to your routine.

Stay safe, Stay healthy, and Stay happy!

Fire, Smoke and Soot.

11/7/2019 (Permalink)

Smoke and soot facts:

  • Hot smoke migrates to cooler areas and upper levels of a structure.
  • Smoke flows around plumbing systems, seeping through the holes used by pipes to go from floor to floor.
  • The type of smoke may greatly affect the restoration process.

Our Fire Damage Restoration Services

Smoke and soot is very invasive and can penetrate various cavities within your home, causing hidden damage and odor. Our smoke damage expertise and experience allows us to inspect and accurately assess the extent of the damage to develop a comprehensive plan of action

Since each smoke and fire damage situation is a little different, each one requires a unique solution tailored for the specific conditions.  We have the equipment, expertise, and experience to restore your fire and smoke damage.  We will also treat your family with empathy and respect and your property with care.

Different Types of Smoke

There are two different types of smoke–wet and dry. As a result, there are different types of soot residue after a fire. Before restoration begins, SERVPRO of Visalia will test the soot to determine which type of smoke damage occurred. The cleaning procedures will then be based on the information identified during pretesting. Here is some additional information:

Wet Smoke – Plastic and Rubber

  • Low heat, smoldering, pungent odor, sticky, smeary. Smoke webs are more difficult to clean.

Dry Smoke – Paper and Wood

  • Fast burning, high temperatures, heat rises therefore smoke rises.

Protein Fire Residue – Produced by evaporation of material rather than from a fire

  • Virtually invisible, discolors paints and varnishes, extreme pungent odor.
